And so it begins……… about time!!!

Finally the 2012 / 2013 speedway season is about to burst into life and if all goes to plan it could become very interesting for this little punter, but more about that later (if it pans out).

There are a number of things that will peak my interest this season, in no particular order -

  • The return of the Mistro Kelvin Grey to the Superstock ranks. I consider Kelvin to be one of the best and have missed his talent on the track.
  • Red Waka Racing with the updated Vendetta Waka 1 in the hands of Wayne Hemi and the very talented Jordan Dare piloting Waka 2.
  • Hopefully a trip down to the top of the south for the NZ Superstock Champs.
  • If the track calendars are correct, more Superstock teams races throughout the season on top of the annual Team Champs and Teams Nationals
  • Hours of browsing material / pics from the likes of Spectator (Gregobro) and Go Slideways TV. Also look forward to some great footage from Mikey B, Petrolfumes and Maori Made Productions.
  • The Invitation World 240s at TWS Paradise Valley Raceway, one of my favourite race weekends every year.

To get my whistle nicely wetted and shake the cobwebs out of the Olympus, I was able to spend some time at the first practice held at Placemakers Huntly last Saturday. While many northern tracks are still burning the midnight oil and cursing the weather gods, it appears that Huntly have been able to get most of the off-season work completed and the place was looking a picture (pity I didn’t take one of the track to show you). While there were no Superstocks present, most other classes were represented in a good turnout and it was comforting to hear and see racecars doing it on the clay again after the winter break.

Here is a selection of those that made it on track.
